Ten Years at Clerkenwell Design Week

News

Last month saw the highly anticipated return of Clerkenwell Design Week! As our 10th year participating in the UK’s largest commercial interiors event, we can confidently say that CDW23 was the most unforgettable year for sixteen3 yet. Our Bastwick St showroom welcomed hundreds of visitors with a constant buzz of excitement as we showcased our latest product launches, range updates, and new colour and material palettes.

There was a lot to keep track of amidst the hustle and bustle. We introduced two new soft seating collections, a new range of tables and launched our innovative new space division system. We displayed updates to various existing products and finishes and took the opportunity to reinforce our core beliefs surrounding the importance of sustainability within our industry. To ensure you haven’t missed anything, here’s a recap.

The informal lounge area in sixteen3's Bastwick Street showroom at CDW23. There's an Otto sofa, two Otto armchairs, Monsal benches, Milo tables, Pop stools and an Icarus table

Upon entering the showroom, a joyful, vibrant display of products (new and old) greeted visitors. The design of this welcoming area is intended to embrace a growing contemporary trend for open and informal social spaces. Inspired by the whimsical styles of dopamine decor, the colour scheme brought a sense of wonder and delight to the space. Our new launches made a bold impact – quilted lilac Monsal benches lined the windows, while an elegant boucle Otto sofa enclosed the seating area. A contrasting freestanding Artus divider stood behind the sunny Otto armchairs forming the perfect playful backdrop, defining the space and creating an air of mystery from the rest of the showroom.

A Tuk table. A small table attached to some Monsal bench seating. The top is made from recycled plastic bags.

Two talking points in this area which were more understated were the Tuk tables and the cork fabric Pop stool. Bespoke Tuk tables accessorised the Monsal benches, creating a convenient place for placing a phone or cup of coffee. With their handmade tops crafted from recycled polythene, which featured a vibrant and distinctive marble-like effect, these small tables made a significant impact.

One of our classic Pop stools delighted visitors with an illusion as they discovered the stool wasn’t made from solid cork, but was actually soft seating upholstered using Vyva Cork & Co Cork fabric. This sustainable fabric is recyclable and 100% natural. This fabric is antimicrobial and made from one of the Earth’s most renewable materials. Subtle, sustainable and impactful, it’s a firm favourite of ours too.

sixteen3's Fuse 2 seating. A new update to the popular Fuse range specially for CDW23

For CDW23 our best-selling Fuse range has had a facelift. Featuring a softer, more gently rounded shape than its predecessor, Fuse 2‘s inviting silhouette beckoned guests to enjoy this warm sun-trap at the quiet end of the showroom. As modular and functional as before but with a new, refined aesthetic. Fuse 2 is a fantastic option for both private and collaborative working.

Odyssey flaunted its sleek new wire base, taking centre stage by the front doors of the showroom. Both the low and high back options of Odyssey feature the wire base, which enables fine-tuning of the colour scheme for subtle contrasting palettes or monochromatic looks.

sixteen3's highly sustainable Sedir sofa creates a retro conversation pit with velvet upholstery, in their showroom for CDW23

An expansive Sedir sofa formed a mid-century-inspired conversation pit towards the back of the showroom, forming the perfect canvas to display our new table ranges. Both tables told the sustainable plastic story with honest, upcycled Smile Plastics Charcoal tops whilst showcasing the versatility of these two dynamic new table offerings. Sedir is a clear-cut choice for sustainable interiors, making Smile Plastics and Sedir an unstoppable environmental duo.

New Tuk table and Sedir Ottoman table show sixteen3's new table offering for CDW23

A new Ottoman Table has been added to the Sedir range, ideal for capping off the end of a run of Sedir seating, breaking up a long sofa or as an alternative corner section on an L-shaped arrangement. In contrast to the large coffee table style ottoman, a small Tuk table sat elevated above the Sedir seats. Tuk creates a convenient touchdown spot to check emails or take a break in areas which may not have space for additional tables.

Like the new Sedir Ottoman and Tuk Tables, we’ve also added Smile Plastics to our selection of standard finishes for Milo Tables. The informal lounge area has a Milo with the new Grey Mist colourway, creating an eye-catching contrast on a Jet Black frame. Smile Plastics specialises in creating sustainable and innovative materials from recycled plastic, focusing on design circularity and material quality. We are delighted to offer their ‘Grey Mist’ and ‘Charcoal’ finishes across multiple sixteen3 table ranges.

CDW23 wasn’t only about new products; we’ve added nine new colours to our standard metal finish range. As metal components are prevalent in most sixteen3 products, our updated collection now offers twenty-four shades, providing a wide array of colour scheme possibilities. The expanded palette focuses on elegant, dark hues and sophisticated neutral shades, allowing for endless design opportunities that stay ahead of interior trends. At CDW23, we presented our complete metal finish range through an interactive art wall, inviting guests to explore and create their own compositions using their preferred colour combinations.

If you didn’t get a chance to visit our Bastwick Street showroom during CDW23 or you’d like to pop back for a more in-depth tour, we’d love to show you around! Get in touch with your sales rep or phone the office to arrange a visit.
