Through sensory experiments and expert insights, we’ll explore how design decisions impact the way we see, feel, and move through space — and challenge assumptions about what “works.” This year’s transformation of our Bastwick Street Showroom creates an interactive space where visitors can rethink interior design through the lens of neuroscience, accessibility, and inclusivity, in partnership with Crown Paints. Join us for hands-on challenges, sensory experiments, and a thought-provoking talk by Dr. Stephanie Fitzgerald entitled ‘Why Does My Brain Like It Here?‘, as Design Interventions explores how design can shape the way we see, feel, and interact with the world around us.
As always our product exhibition evolves with the launch of several brand-new furniture pieces, that will transport you out of the chaos and offer a supportive moment to rest your body, brain, and spirit.
Read on for a short summary on each of the activities.

Interactive Sensory Experiences
The showroom will feature a series of hands-on activities designed to challenge perception and raise awareness of sensory impairments, including an interactive colour matching test inspired by the Munsell system, a moodboarding challenge with simulated sensory impairments, and an area demonstrating how upholstery choices impact visibility through high-contrast and tonal-matching furniture.
Keynote Talk: ‘Why Does My Brain Like It Here?’
On Wednesday, May 21st at 1:30 PM, Dr. Stephanie Fitzgerald, Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Neuropsychologist, and award-winning author, unpacks the fascinating science behind our response to space. From colour and texture to acoustics and layout, she will explore the hidden factors shaping our wellbeing, productivity, and experience of the world around us.
Whether you’re an interior designer, architect, workplace strategist, or simply curious about how design affects us, this talk will provide valuable insights into making environments more inclusive, engaging, and comfortable for all.
Spaces for the talk are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Register your interest via Eventbrite https://why-does-my-brain-like-it-here.eventbrite.co.uk. Please note, registration does not guarantee a seat, so early arrival is advised.
